Sparaxis Mixed

Botanical Name: Sparaxis tricolor

Position: Full sun to part shade. Choose a sheltered position protected from strong winds.

Climate: Suitable for cool, temperate and Mediterranean climates. Tolerates light frost.

Planting Time: Autumn to early winter.

Watering: Water thoroughly after planting, then keep soil lightly moist while plants are actively growing and flowering. Avoid waterlogging. Reduce watering once foliage begins to die back and keep corms relatively dry during dormancy.

Flowering Time: Spring.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser or blood and bone at planting. Feed again when growth appears and after flowering to encourage strong corm development for the following season.

Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid heavy or poorly drained soils.

Pests: Protect emerging growth from snails and slugs. Good drainage helps prevent corm rot.

Growing Tips: Plant corms with the pointed end facing upwards at the recommended depth. Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the corms can store energy for the following season. Sparaxis can be left undisturbed in suitable climates and will gradually naturalise, forming larger clumps over time.
