Scilla Bells — Produces graceful spikes of bell-shaped flowers in shades of blue, pink or white above slender green foliage. Easy to grow and excellent for naturalising, they are ideal for garden beds, borders, woodland plantings, pots and containers, bringing charming spring colour to the garden.

Botanical Name: Hyacinthoides hispanica

Position: Full sun to part shade. Performs well in dappled light beneath deciduous trees and shrubs.

Climate: Suitable for cool, temperate and Mediterranean climates. Frost tolerant.

Planting Time: Autumn to early winter.

Watering: Water thoroughly after planting, then keep soil evenly moist while plants are actively growing and flowering. Avoid waterlogged conditions. Reduce watering as foliage begins to die back after flowering.

Flowering Time: Spring.

Fertilising: Apply a light application of blood and bone or a balanced bulb fertiliser at planting. Feed again after flowering to help replenish bulbs for the following season.

Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil enriched with organic matter. Adaptable to a range of soil types provided drainage is good.

Pests: Protect emerging shoots from snails and slugs. Good drainage helps prevent bulb rot.

Growing Tips: Plant bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards at the recommended depth. Scilla Bells naturalise readily and can be left undisturbed for many years. Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering to help bulbs store energy for the following season. Plant in groups or drifts for the most impressive display.
