Dutch Iris Blue
Botanical name - Iris × hollandica (syn. Iris xiphium)
Position - Grows best in full sun to part shade.
Climate - Suitable for all climates except tropical regions.
Planting time - Autumn to winter.
Watering - Water well after planting, then avoid further watering until foliage emerges. During active growth and flowering, water deeply once a week. Reduce and stop watering as foliage begins to die back.
Flowering time - Spring.
Fertilising - Generally not required in well-prepared soil. In poorer soils, apply blood and bone once new growth appears.
Soil - Prefers well-drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH.
Pests - Watch for aphids and treat if necessary.
Growing Tips - Dutch Iris produce elegant, long-lasting flowers that are excellent for garden displays and cut flower arrangements. Avoid overwatering, as bulbs can rot in wet or poorly drained soils. Bulbs can remain undisturbed for many years. If lifting is required, wait until the foliage has completely died back, then store bulbs in a warm, dry, well-ventilated location until replanting.
